Self guided walking
This is a holiday for you walkers that are more experienced and don’t want to come under the umbrella of a guided walk. You will probably be a group of family or friends and feel that with our experience of local walks and conditions you will be able to enjoy planning and undertaking your own walking itinerary using “ The Country House Almunecar “ as your ideal walking base.

Group guided walks
We have 6 separate walks on 6 different days, picking you up from the house at 9am and finishing the days walk at about 5pm. The other day is “ airport or changeover “ day. Your evening meal is prepared and served at The Country House Almunecar at around 8pm.
Walking Routes
Walk 1. Cerro de Caleta
Explores the coastline and watchtowers of the Acantilados de Maro y Cerro Gordo…..Both a Marine and National Park…..Bring your swimming gear and snorkel. We have often seen the Monte Cabras (indigenous mountain goat ) on this walk.
Walk 2. Junto de Los Rios ( The Joining of the Rivers )
A beautiful walk in the gorges surrounding the source of the Rio Verde ( Green River ) and the Rio Seco ( Dry River ). Bring your swimming gear and towel !
Walk 3. The Walk of the Two Barrancos
We walk up through a shaded gorge into the mountains. Stopping for lunch at an abandoned cortijo ( Cortijo de la Civila ) and then back down, finishing the walk through another barranco ( gorge ) near to the Caves at Nerja.
Walk 4. The Hidden Gardens
The area was established by the Moors who took advantage of the verdant river valley to cultivate a variety of fruits, oranges, lemons and avocados. We walk through various olive groves and through the 3 beautiful white villages of Los Guarajos ( Alto, Faraguit and Fondo ). We will have the opportunity to visit the original settlement of the Moors on this walk.
Walk 5. The Waterfall of Petrified Wood
This walk takes us high into the Sierras ( mountains ) above the pretty village of Otivar. The views on this walk are spectacular, with Dolomite stones, like ancient sentinels, perched on the mountains side.
Walk 6. Barranco Walk from Lentegí
Starting in the Pueblo Blanco ( white village ) of Lentegí, we descend into the gorge of the Lentegi River Valley with its impressive limestone crags…The beautiful smell of Wild Rosemary and Lavender can be intoxicating !
Walk 7. Rio Chillar and the Cortijo Iman
This walk takes us to an old water mill down in the Rio Chillar Valley ( Scream River ) and up to the abandoned Cortijo Iman, involved in the tobacco trade, which is one of the most impressive settings we have come across
