Self guided walking
This is a holiday for you walkers that are more experienced and don’t want to come under the umbrella of a guided walk. You will probably be a group of family or friends and feel that with our experience of local walks and conditions you will be able to enjoy planning and undertaking your own walking itinerary using “ The Country House Almunecar “ as your ideal walking base.

Group guided walks
We have 6 separate walks on 6 different days, picking you up from the house at 9am and finishing the days walk at about 5pm. The other day is “ airport or changeover “ day. Your evening meal is prepared and served at The Country House Almunecar at around 8pm.
Area Walking Information
Sierras de Tejada, Almijara and Alhama Natural Parks.
These 3 National Parks together are 40,663 hectares in area. They form a large mountain range between the provinces of Malaga and Granada. In the Sierra Tejada solid limestone predominates. In the Sierra Almijara there are also dolomitic marble formations.
The landscape in the high sierras is rugged and craggy with summits running parallel to the coast with valleys and deep ravines. There are also a large number of cave formations in this area……for example, Nerja. The highest peak in the area is La Maroma at just over 2000 metres.
There is also a network of rivers running down to the coast from the sierras, The Rio Verde, Rio Seco, Rio Chillar etc. all of which feature on our walks.
The Flora of the region consists of many forests of Mediterannean pines and juniper scrub. Also different types of oak tree including cork oaks. The brush consists of broom,maples, yews and scots pines, honeysuckles and many mountain plants.
Included in the Fauna of the area is the emblematic Mountain goat or “ Monte Cabra “ you can also see Red deer and Ibex, with their splendid horns.
The birdlife is exceptional with a variety of eagles, including the Golden eagle. Also Peregrine falcons and Goshawks. Smaller birds such as Bee-eaters and Oriels are to be seen as well as many more common varieties of birds.
