Self guided walking
This is a holiday for you walkers that are more experienced and don’t want to come under the umbrella of a guided walk. You will probably be a group of family or friends and feel that with our experience of local walks and conditions you will be able to enjoy planning and undertaking your own walking itinerary using “ The Country House Almunecar “ as your ideal walking base.
We can cater for larger groups. Please contact us for more details about accommodation and prices.

About the area
The Costa Tropical has its own micro-climate protected from the rest of Spain by the Sierra mountain ranges. The climate is sub-tropical ie heat without the humidity. It is perfect for walking and the outdoors. The average summer temperature is in the 30’s Centigrade. In the winter the days are cooler, can be as low as 11 degrees Centigrade, but also can be in the 20’s. Average temperature is 18 degrees Centigrade. Clear blue skies are quite normal during the winter months. There is the occasional rainy day but any storm front soon blows over. If we feel conditions are unsuitable for walking on a particular day we will find alternative activities for that day.
In short, we have the perfect climate for walking during the Autumn, Winter and Spring months. Not in the Summer. Its too hot ! If you want to go walking and not have to leave Europe the Costa Tropical is the place to be!
We are based near the pretty coastal town of Almunecar midway between Malaga and Granada. The town has a rich and varied history dating back to the Phoenicians, Romans and the 700 year occupation by the Moors. There are many historical sites to explore in the town itself and in some of the surrounding countryside where we will be walking. The town is nestled below the National Park of the Sierra Almijara where we base a lot of our walks.
To make our year-round walks more interesting, whenever we can we try and incorporate a place of unusual interest...so during the week we will visit the historic caves at Nerja, and the Castles at Almuñécar.
The Costa Tropical has its own tropical micro-climate, one of the best in all Spain.
